Why is Asbestos Sampling Important?
Prolonged exposure to asbestos fibres causing cancers has been well-documented. Removal to eliminate the risk or the proper management to control airborne fibres emanating from asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and Asbestos Containing Dust (ACD) is the most effective way for a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) such as a building owner to minimize risk to occupants. In other words, removal of ACM/ACD will eliminate risk while a cost-effective method of managing ACM/ACD presence in an undisturbed state coupled with routine examination for airborne fibres and protocols for emergency/access assist to manage risk.
An accurate asbestos inventory is the basic building block to successful maintenance management. To enable this, a comprehensive asbestos building survey report including photos of ACM/ACD, site maps with location and distribution of ACM/ACD, field-labelled materials, IANZ-accredited laboratory analyses of samples extracted from a complete room-by-room asbestos inventory along with risk assessments and remedial actions will be provided by WPAAS.
Site-specific asbestos removal, or a combined periodic inspection coupled to exposure monitoring are prudent ways for building owners to control asbestos exposure risks to occupants and maintenance personnel. WPAAS has the expertise to assist your site to control risk.
